I found a spot to sit on the shore of Lake Ontario to watch the Barn Swallows swooping over the surface of the lake catching insects, only to notice a group of fledglings sitting quietly on a twig over the water. As soon as an adult approached, they immediately changed from quiet to raucous each trying to outdo the others in their bid to be noticed and fed.
